OH Coco
I’ve been poorly and busy in equal parts so no shoutin yer gob off about how this blog has gathered dust. Like a smack-head parent I’ve been thinking about it on guilty occasion, but generally neglecting and favouring selfish hedonism. Don’t go calling the cops yeah.
You know I have issues with you-tube obsession, 4 hour stints of looking for secret behind the scenes footage of Nicki Minaj talking about fancying Da Brat or backstage Hollyoaks fanfiction spoilers. So it was kinda refreshing to find a socially acceptable obsession, even if she is like 14 or something. Coco Sumner, that Alexa-Chung with dirty knees sister, is feral looking jail bait with somewhat interesting Teen Vogue style music. I’ve got a tenner on the entire Skins soundtrack being made up of her album.
So yeah she’s fit and her music is alright-ish. But like a kind-hearted king Diplo has gotten an audio boner over her new single with Robyn (remember her and that lesbo haircut yeah? Konichiwa Bitches was my most played song of 2002 or somethin, shame shame) and mixed it GOODTIMES.
It’s got 2010 essential military drumming, deep ‘oohs’ like a Labyrinth production and a few sonic bleeps. Coco’s voice sounds like toffee sauce over Robyn’s ice cream sundae and it works a whole lot. It doesn’t go too far with the bass and slows things right back with a chuck up of steady beats, some chump is bound to extend this to a ‘filthy dubstep coco-on-the-sub-bass-bench-miss’ in 2 minutes and I’ll find it in my inbox with a clip art attachment.
Listen to it and DEFFO watch the video. I actually saw Coco at the weekend in Bangor at Radio 1′s Big Weekend, she wasn’t listed as playing but shuffled on stage during the Sub Focus set and literally pounded through a decent vocal in front of 15’000 people without an ounce of give-a-shit. She’s legal right?
